Wed 13th Mar 2019 - Costa trials delivery, Gail's appoints new MD and secures 50th site
Costa Coffee trials delivery with Deliveroo: Costa Coffee, now owned by Coca-Cola, is trialling a delivery service in partnership with Deliveroo. Handcrafted coffee, selected menu items and bundle offers are available for delivery from six central London stores. In a first for Costa Coffee, its Moorgate Pronto, Shepherd’s Bush, Rathbone Place, Bethnal Green Road, Essex Road and Tooley Street sites are offering the service as part of a trial. Customers can order through the Deliveroo website or app and choose from a range of coffee options as well as sweet treats. A Deliveroo delivery fee of £2.50 will be applied to each order. In addition, the Costa Coffee service will use a new coffee carrier pack designed to “ensure optimum product quality on delivery”. Arslan Sharif, global digital and loyalty director at Costa Coffee, said: “We know our customers are looking for convenient ways to enjoy great coffee and we wanted to explore how we could satisfy their need for speed and convenience by delivering it straight to their door. By partnering with Deliveroo, we’re making the experience easy for people who are at work or comfy at home looking for their Costa Coffee fix without having to go into a store or visit one of our Express coffee machines. We look forward to seeing the response to the trial and using the results to explore more ways we can offer a great service for customers.” Deliveroo spokesman Joe Groves added: “Deliveroo is constantly looking for new ways to ensure customers have access to amazing food and drink whenever and wherever they want it so we are delighted to work with Costa Coffee to bring our customers their favourite coffee straight to the door.” The delivery trial comes following the roll-out of Costa Collect in London stores last year, a service that allows Costa Coffee Club customers to place an order on the Costa Coffee app and collect their coffee in-store.

Gail’s Bakery promotes Pogroszewska to managing director as it secures 50th site: Gail’s Bakery, which is backed by sector investor Luke Johnson, has appointed Marta Pogroszewska as its new managing director as it gears up to open its 50th site. Pogroszewska joined the then 33-strong business in September 2016 as retail director after 12 years with Pret A Manger. She has spent her past three years as director of operations for Pret A Manger in New York. Before that she was an operations manager in the UK for more than two years. The company is about to open its 50th site, in Shepherd’s Bush Road, Brook Green. It recently strengthened its regional presence with an opening in Brighton and is thought to have a further site near Tower Bridge in the pipeline. Gail’s Bakery was founded in 2005 when Ran Avidan, Tom Molnar, who is chief executive, and Emma King opened its first site in Hampstead. Early last year, parent company Bread Holdings appointed KPMG to advise on sale options for the business in which Johnson invested in 2011. However, it was reported late last year this process was being put on hold until after Brexit.
